OUR RESULTS AT A GLANCE
Grants & Training
We've conducted more than 100 workshops and provided funding to seven communities so they could learn how to plan and implement their own projects. With our training and support, they have:
- installed 84 rainwater catchment systems
- planted 450 hardwood and fruit trees
- completed 9 workshops in organic cacao cultivation and composting techniques
- built 5 composting toilets
- built 3 tree nurseries and germinated more than 3000 organic cacao plants
1400 men, women, and children have been directly impacted by our programs: they have access to clean water, increased forest cover on their land, greater food security, increased knowledge of organic cacao production, or access to ecological sanitation. Families report improved health, improvements in their own water conservation habits, and more awareness about biodiversity protection and the connection between human activity and climate change.
Environmental Education & Leadership
Our locally-filmed documentary Life and Breath, which was selected for the 2010 Green Screen Environmental Film Festival, is the cornerstone of our environmental education and leadership efforts. Since 2009, more than 12,000 people have watched the documentary, including:
- More than 30 community screenings of Life and Breath
- More than a dozen screenings for the general public and institutions, including school districts
- 3 local television broadcasts, including a week of panel presentations on climate change
- More than a dozen classroom screenings and climate change workshops
In addition, the internationally recognized Universidad Andina Simon BolĂvar in Quito uses the documentary for its national teacher training program and local government leadership training program. The Ecuadorian environment ministry uses the documentary to train community environmental leaders.
"Life and Breath is truly an inspiring video. We have used it for viewings with Kichwa communities in other areas of the Amazon and even in the Andean highlands, and there has always been lively discussion and interest because it is in Kichwa and it has high production value. The Amazon Partnerships Foundation approach is one that any person who has worked in development will recognize as the only viable model for achieving real change.
